ZEALOUS Magazine
During my sophomore year at the University of Iowa, I had the idea to start a student-led publication. Ranked by the U.S. News & World Report as the only public university in the Top 10 institutions in the United States for writing in the disciplines, it is no surprise the University of Iowa is home to over 10 student-run magazines. However, with a majority of those magazines centered solely on submission-based literary works, I knew it was time to introduce a publication focused on timely topics that truly excited the significant Gen Z population on campus.
I created Zealous Magazine in September 2023 with the help from fellow journalism student and creative Isabella Cervantes. Together we built an inclusive, creative and collaborative outlet where students gained hands-on support and experience in all aspects of the publication process including reporting and writing, graphic design, photography, marketing and public relations. I served as Editor-in-Chief for three consecutive semesters and produced three digital issues of Zealous, each including written and visual work related to fashion, entertainment, culture and social justice.
